In Greece, Mission Leaders Challenge Mammon, AIDS
(UNDATED) Christian mission leaders from a broader-than-usual theological spectrum on Monday (May 16) ended the 13th Conference on World Mission and Evangelism hearing a potpourri of calls to find ways to respond to Christianity's growth in Africa and Asia, the AIDS pandemic and a global economic system that has elevated money to the level of an idol. The World Council of Churches-sponsored meeting, which also included a number of Pentecostal and evangelical denominations not usually part of WCC meetings, and a large 42-member delegation of Roman Catholics, differed from the usual ecumenical conferences by emphasizing common prayer, Bible study and small group discussions rather than politically charged declarations.
